Pandora cuts plastic content from packaging

Pandora introduces new and improved jewelry packaging in its stores and online. Pandora carrier bags will no longer contain plastic and the plastic content of jewelry boxes will be reduced by over 75%. Without compromising on quality, the new packaging reduces greenhouse gas emissions by more than 60% compared to packaging previously used, and it is manufactured with fewer materials, which increases its recyclability. All paper used in the packaging is FSCTM certified1, which means it comes from well-managed forests and recycled sources.

New designs are expected to reduce Pandora’s carbon footprint by 3,600 tonnes of CO2e per year, equivalent to the annual emissions of 800 cars.

It has already been tested with some of our customers and has received very positive feedback for its design, protection and recyclability, ”says Carla Liuni, Chief Marketing Officer at Pandora.

The shift to low-carbon packaging and point-of-sale materials will be crucial in helping Pandora meet its climate goals. Earlier this month Pandora is committed to halving its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 in its own operations and across the value chain of its suppliers and business partners. The lens was endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative and is the most ambitious in the jewelry industry to date. Pandora has also pledged to achieve net zero emissions by 2040.

The new bags and boxes are available in the United States and in most stores in Europe and Asia. Deployment to other geographies will follow through 2021 and 2022, as Pandora uses current inventory.
