Pandora and Cartier quit RJC following Russian response

Pandora has cut ties with the Responsible Jewelery Council (RJC).

Several industry players have announced their departure from the Responsible Jewelery Council (RJC) due to the industry body’s failure to cut ties with Russia.

Among those coming out are Cartier and other brands belonging to the Richemont group, as well as Danish jewelry brand Pandora.

“It is not part of our Richemont values to be part of an organization in which some members support conflicts and wars,” says Cartier President and CEO Cyrille Vigneron.

Pandora’s exit, the company says, follows the RJC’s failure to suspend Russian business memberships and responsible business certifications. Pandora, who had been a member of the trade association for 12 years, had previously asked the RJC to take such action

“We are shocked and saddened by the unprovoked attack on Ukraine, and our hearts go out to the people of Ukraine, who are victims of this senseless act of military aggression,” said the company’s CEO, Alexander Lacik. “War demands that all companies act with the utmost responsibility regarding any business interaction or transaction with Russia and Belarus. Pandora cannot be a bona fide member of an association that does not share its values.
